Senate GOP ends last attempt to repeal Obamacare

Senate Republicans have decided not to vote on the Graham-Cassidy-Heller-Johnson healthcare bill, their last-ditch effort to repeal Obamacare before their Sept. 30 deadline.

The Hill reports, “‘We don’t have the votes so it’s probably best we don’t do the vote,’ said Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) after the GOP conference met at its regular weekly luncheon. ‘We’ve lost this battle, but we’re going to win the war.’”

Bill Cassidy (R-La.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who sponsored the bill, are also confident they will eventually get the votes they need to pass it. In the meantime, both senators will be touring the country to gain support for their bill.

WOMEN IN SAUDI ARABIA FINALLY ALLOWED TO DRIVE

Manal al-Sharif, who has worked to get the Saudi government to allow women to drive, celebrated the news with this tweet.

According to a CNN report, “A royal decree has been issued that will allow women in the country to drive, the Saudi Foreign ministry said Tuesday on its official Twitter account.”

The move is the latest in a series of changes that many are attributing to 32-year-old Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The prince is undertaking an ambitious plan to transform the Saudi economy by 2030 and increase the number of women in the workforce.

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the US, Prince Khaled bin Salman, told CNN that the move is “part of Vision 2030, which is a huge step toward a brighter future.”

Despite this positive step, The Independent points out there are still some pretty big things Saudi women are not allowed to do.

Yesterday was a dark one for college hoops:  assistant basketball coaches from four schools were arrested on bribery charges.

Arizona, Oklahoma State, Auburn and USC all were implicated, while other schools like Louisville and San Diego State admitted that they were part of the complex case that also involves companies like Adidas paying high school players to commit to schools that are sponsored by their brand.

Some of those arrested could face up to 60 years in prison if convicted all charges and high-profile coaches like Rick Pitino are in the spotlight.

And if that wasn’t bad enough news for college students, the news broke yesterday that Fixer Upper is going to end soon. Can we have a worse Tuesday for reals?

Among the 8 tips she has for being more confident is one we really like: don’t give up. “You are blessed to be in college, wherever it is in the world, studying whatever subject you are studying, preparing for a future in whatever field you have chosen,” she writes. “Learn from your mistakes. Pick yourself up when you fail. Improve your situation as best as you can.”

 See all the tips here.
